TWO Ryedale pubs are backing Louby’s Lifeline with fundraising events next week.

The Fleece in Rillington will host local band Starbox on Saturday, January 28, in aid of the appeal, which was set up by Malton teenager Laura Robertson-Tierney, who was diagnosed with two aggressive brain tumours last April.

There will also be a raffle during the evening and collection buckets on the bar.

Rachel Shaw, who has organised the event, said she wanted to do something following the success of a Halloween party at the Ham and Cheese pub in Scagglethorpe.

She said: “After meeting Louby and her mum, I wanted to do something else to support them as they have both been through so much.”

The King’s Head in Market Place, Malton, is holding a Burns Night event next Wednesday for the appeal. A special supper menu is available in the restaurant, along with Scottish music, bagpipes and whisky offers.

Manager Linda Skelton said that when they heard about Louby’s Lifeline, they wanted to do something to help.

“It is a local charity and Laura is a local girl so we felt it would be nice to do something to raise money,” she said.

It will be held between 6pm-11pm. To book a table, phone 01653 692289.

A further donation of more than £100 has been made to Louby’s Lifeline from Norton’s annual civic service.

Mayor Coun Di Keal handed over a cheque to Laura from the collection made at last month’s service at St Peter’s Church.

The appeal has so far raised more than £6,000 to help patients across the county through the Brain Cancer Trust in Yorkshire.

Louby’s Lifeline wristbands and t-shirts are available from the Gazette & Herald office.

Anyone who is planning to hold an event to help Louby’s Lifeline should phone Karen Darley on 01653 695600, email maltongazette@gazetteherald.co.uk or drop in at the Malton office in Yorkersgate.
