VILLAGERS in Ampleforth have received a letter from the Queen wishing them a successful and enjoyable Jubilee celebration.

Members of St Hilda’s Church wrote to Her Majesty with photos of the kneelers made to commemorate the Jubilee year.

The project was co-ordinated by Ampleforth and District sewing group, involving 19 members, with funds donated locally.

Church member Sheila Harrison said she had sent pictures to the Archbishop of York and the Queen.

“We received a lovely letter in response from the Queen, wishing us a memorable day of celebrations,” she said.

Ampleforth’s Jubilee celebrations include a village ‘songs of praise’ at the church on Sunday at 6pm.

On Monday, a full day of entertainment starts at 9.30am with open gardens and scarecrow judging, plus a treasure hunt, games on the playing fields, a fun dog show, live music and refreshments.
