New homes: a dream home in New Earswick

It’s no secret that this property writer is a big fan of Hogg the Builder homes… they are invariably well-built, imaginative and stylish.

But with Ilford House at New Earswick, even Hogg have hit new heights… This is an astonishingly grand home, brilliantly designed, superbly built and with a level of grace and elegance rarely found in contemporary properties.

Now, before you get to thinking that Hogg must have stashed a barrel of beer behind the bar at my local by way of persuading me to wax lyrical, we should say take a look at the pictures and judge for yourself (they’re nice folk at Hogg but not that nice!).

First, take a look at the house itself. It’s high and handsome, stretching lazily over three floors. At the back a delightful conservatory runs half the length of the house – and from here you have brilliant views over the open countryside, paddock and orchard that form the backdrop to the property.

Next, step inside and find a big breakfast kitchen that has been individually designed and installed by Peter Thompson of York and which includes unusual luxuries such as a steam oven, built-in coffee machine and integral American style giant fridge/freezer – and there’s a cook’s pantry (back to the future as it were).

There is a grand entrance hallway with a solid oak staircase that leads up to galleried landings on the first and second floors.

Off this hallway lies a large, bright and airy lounge and there is an elegant dining room.

There are five bedrooms, the master has an absolutely stunning en-suite which has to be seen to be believed (don’t rely on our words, once again have a look at the picture) which, joy of joys, has a ‘splash’ TV screen so you can lie back in the free-standing bath and watch whatever your heart desires.

(Another nice touch of this house is the fact that there is a built-in stereo music system with iPod docking station).

Of the other four bedrooms, one has an en-suite and there are not one but two further family bathrooms.

As if all of this was not enough, there is a studio/office above the detached double garage.

The extensive gardens are landscaped, leading through orchards to a 3.5 acre freehold paddock beyond.

Quite fabulous, then – but there is more… Ilford House is one of a pair in this development, named Ilford Court, and there is a similarly luxurious property sitting next door – this one waiting for a prospective purchaser to customise the interior to their own wishes and dreams.

Did we mention dreams? Ah, well, there’s the rub. Ilford House and its neighbour are a little beyond our real-world pockets. Hogg is looking at prices from £949,950… which is a pity really as it has robbed us of our million pound home headline!
