Georgian-style townhouses and apartments at Stone Court, Holgate, York, get a green thumbs-up

A green thumbs-up has been given to a range of new Georgian-style townhouses and apartments in York.

Stone Court, in Darlton Terrace, off Holgate Road, comprises three townhouses with four or five bedrooms and three luxury apartments, which have all scored highly for their Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

Built by Wilton Homes, they scored a higher-than-average “B” rating, which only once per cent of homes in England and Wales meet.

In addition, independent assessments show the development’s five- bedroomed, five-storey townhouse will cost just £750 per annum for heating, lighting and hot water.

Every home on the market in England and Wales is independently tested and rated between A and G for energy efficiency, which is published in the property’s EPC.

A survey by Halifax Estate Agents recently found that most homes on the market in England and Wales fall into the ‘average’ D rating and only one per cent meet the A or B rating.

Wilton Homes’ co-director Alan Partington says the company achieved the standard by designing and building the properties to a high specification, beyond the requirements of today’s already-tough building regulations.

The insulation in the walls and roofs is significantly better than that typically found in newly built homes, he said, and the triple-glazed windows offer acoustic benefits, while the state-of-the-art programmable heating system has underfloor heating in the main rooms. Additional features include a central ventilation/extraction system to maintain air quality at a high standard with no need for traditional noisy extractor fans, energy-efficient lighting, and low-water-usage WCs.

“The quality of the build was key in achieving high energy efficiency standards and this was evident in the development’s airtightness testing,” said Mr Partington. “All new homes must be tested for their airtightness to ensure that air leakage or ‘uncontrolled ventilation’ is kept to a minimum – this helps home owners keep energy bills down by reducing heat loss through gaps in the walls, floor and roof as well as around doors and windows.”

Stone Court provides a choice of three townhouses which start at £550,000, with rear courtyards and gardens and plenty of secure parking. A choice of one-and two-bedroom luxury apartments are priced between £135,000 and £315,000.

• The development’s showhome is open from Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm and on Saturdays between 10am to 2pm. To find out more, phone Wilton Homes on 07900 816545 or visit wiltonhomes.co.uk
