THERE was an excellent turnout for the village memories event held at Wykeham Cricket Pavilion.

There were displays of photographs of village life and events going back to the 1890s, as well as documents and maps. Many visitors brought along photographs to share, as well as tales of rural life gone by.

Organisers were pleased to welcome Jo Botham, descendant of Elizabeth Botham (of Botham’s of Whitby) who lived in Wykeham in about 1865.

Refreshments were provided and donations totalling more than £90 will be put towards cricket club funds.

Organisers would like to thank all the volunteers and to Wykeham Cricket Club for hosting the event.

"The support of residents past and present is much appreciated, and their wonderful photographs and memories will be preserved in the village archive," they said.

If you were not able to attend the event, and have photos or memories of life in Wykeham, Ruston or North Moor that you would like to share, phone Anne Britton on 07866 106093 or email
