THIS week’s Way We Were photos were supplied by Don Pomfret from Sheriff Hutton.
They are shops and traders on, or near, the Square in Sheriff Hutton, taken early 1900s.
The white telephone kiosk outside the post office is interesting. The road signpost outside ‘E. Groves, Tinner’ points not to York as it would today but to Flaxton Station and Pocklington. The tinners was where the Highwayman car park is today and can be seen on the photo of the Square With the Pack Horse (now the Highwayman) on the left.
