Norton Urban District Council decided on Monday evening to support a suggestion that Old Maltongate should be signposted as an alternative route to Scarborough. A letter to this effect is to be sent to the clerk to the North Riding County Council, to the two local members of parliament and to Malton Urban Council.

The decision followed the receipt of a letter from the Ministry of Transport which stated that the minister was urging motorists to try to bypass the known traffic trouble spots at weekends and holiday times.

The minister had arranged for regular conferences to be called by his divisional road engineers where representatives of the highway authority, the police and motoring clubs could discuss, among other things, the signposting of alternative routes.

Pickering Rural Council at the monthly meeting on Monday decided to ask the Electricity Board to speed a supply of electricity to the six farms and cottages which lie beyond School Row, Rosedale, the farthest point to which the supply has reached.
