FOR this month’s feature, Kirkbymoorside Camera Club has focused on architecture.

A club spokesman said: “Architecture has many meanings. It is described as ‘the complex or carefully designed structure of something’.

“This definition can apply to many things, from buildings (old and new) to the build (architecture) of a computer system or the chemical architecture of the human brain.

“This month’s series of photographs capture the style in which a building are designed and constructed in relation to a period, style or culture.”

The club meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Moorside Bar and Club, Shaw Drive, Kirkbymoorside, at 7.30pm.

New members of all standards welcome.

Barry Tuck - Churches, Kitzbuhel

This picture is of the twin churches in the centre of Kitzbuhel, Austria. Original they were built as a church for men and another for women, but this no longer applies.

Joyce Kingman - National Library, Minsk, Belarus

Minsk was badly damaged in the Second World War and much of the city was rebuilt in typical Stalinist style in the 1950s. A more recent landmark is the modernist National Library of Belarus, opened in 2006. The 22-floor structure includes an open air observation deck giving a panoramic view of the city.

Harry Kingman - Island of Tears

A small footbridge leads from the old town in Minsk to the Island of Tears, a memorial set up in 1988 to commemorate Belarusian soldiers who died in the USSR’s disastrous, nine-year war in Afghanistan (1979-1988). The island’s focal point is a small chapel surrounded by statues of those who were left to mourn the dead - widows, mothers, sisters. Inside the names of more than 700 Belarusian soldiers who died in the war are inscribed.

David Island - Mehrangarth Fort, Jodhpur

Mehrangarth Fort was built in about 1460 and is one of the largest forts in India. Within the walls of the fort are many courtyards and inner buildings, including this Women’s Courtyard.

Jim Cavanagh - Salford Vista

This image was taken at the end of a January afternoon photo shoot at Salford Quays. This is a seven image HDR, exposures ranging between 0.5-30 seconds, ISO.100, using a Canon 17mm lens @ f19 and Canon 5D mkiii camera. The long exposure helped to smooth out the ripples in the water, giving the mirror like image.

Sharon Marwood - Castle in Spring

This image as captured during a visit to Walkworth Castle in Northumberland on a sunny spring morning.

Julie Cowdy - Close up of Cupola

This image of the iconic cupola at Castle Howard was made as the late afternoon rays lit it up against a stormy grey sky. The dome, topped by the golden lantern, was designed by John Vanburgh about 1700 and is a well known feature that can be spotted from a distance in the local landscape. The close up view shows off other features of the Baroque architecture.
