FOR this month’s feature, members of Kirkbymoorside Camera Club have turned their attentions to the “scapes” around us.

Club chairman Harry Kingman said: “According to the rules of the Yorkshire Photographic Union a ‘scape image shows a vista. Including, but not restricted to, landscapes (both traditional and industrial), cityscapes, seascapes, waterscapes and skyscapes.

“An image may include a single tree, building or people - they must not dominate but be part of an overall image providing a mood or atmosphere of the environment captured.”

The club meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Moorside Club (previously known as the British Legion Club), Shaw Drive, Kirkbymoorside, at 7.30pm.

New members of all standards welcome. For more information,

Barrie Tuck – Whitby at Night

Taken on a cold, winters evening in the middle of December

Daniel Mann - Sunset at Whitby

This picture of a spectacular sunset over Whitby was taken in late August last year.

Harry Kingman – Icescape

This image of grounded brash ice, growlers and bergy bits was taken on Half Moon Island, which is one of the South Shetland Islands of the Antarctic Peninsula region. The Argentine Cámara Base is just round the corner, they made us most welcome and showed us round.

John Clifton - Springtime at Kingthorpe

The line of trees at Kingthorpe is an arresting site at any time of year. In winter they present a stark graphic against the snow, here in Springtime their bright green foliage contrasts with the vibrant yellow of the oil seed rape behind.

Joyce Kingman - Shard from Tate Modern

This is the view of the Shard is taken from the viewing terrace on the top floor of the new Switch House extension at Tate Modern. To the left of the Shard you see the modern buildings at Canary Wharf and if you look closely you see Southwark Cathedral, Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast.

Liz Bassindale - Rievaulx in the Rye landscape

This photo was taken on a showery early spring day from Rievaulx Terrace and Temples of the view down to Rievaulx Abbey with the landscape of the North York Moors stretching out beyond. I waited in the cool wind for the patch of sunlight to pass over the abbey so that it stood out in the photo and it brought out the colour of the stone.

Lesley Clay - Approaching Queenstown

Whilst visiting my son in New Zealand, we travelled the South Island together, on the way down to Queenstown we came around a bend and saw this amazing view.

Lynn Wraith - Sunset over Spis Castle

“On a visit to Slovakia at the beginning of October last year I was treated to an amazing sunset across Spis Castle. At first the sunset was quite weak and almost disappeared. However, I waited patiently and was rewarded with a stronger finale. I really love the “V” shape of the sun hitting the castle.”

Mike Ward - Industrial Landscape

After a rainy day at Staithes , this great sunset came into view over the Potash Mine at Cow Bar. I think it was my best image of the day.
