FOR this month's feature, Kirkbymoorside and District Camera Club has focused on holidays.

Club chairman Harry Kingman said: "At this time of year many of us start to think about holidays, maybe just to distract us from the long winter.

"For some it is hot sandy beaches, others mountains and wilderness, for others culture and antiquities and for some it’s a bit more adventurous.

"Whatever your choice they are great to plan and look forward to and, hopefully, give you long lasting memories."

The club meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Moorside Club (previously known as the British Legion Club), Shaw Drive, Kirkbymoorside, at 7.30pm. New members of all standards welcome.

Barrie Tuck - Hackness Bridge

This picture is of the famous Hackness Bridge in the Lake District. A big favourite of landscape photographers and voted one of Britain's most picturesque bridges, despite it being one of the smallest.

David Ireland - Boats at mooring

We were on a short cruise on the Yangtze river, the weather was very dull and misty. I took this image as we passed what looked to be a monastery. The boats had their sails up and must have been waiting for their passengers.

Julie Cowdy - "Hiking in the Pyrenees"

The Cirque de Troumouse, near the Spanish border in the French Pyrenees. The figure in the foreground gives a sense of scale and captures the moment when the strenuous hike is rewarded by the spectacular view. The viewer's gaze is drawn right through the scene to the cloud at the top.

Joyce Kingman - Dubrovnik

The beautiful Croatian city of Dubrovnik has been rebuilt after the bombardment of 1991-2 and it is possible to walk round the walls once more. The views to the Adriatic are spectacular, only the bright new roof tiles indicate the extent of the damage.

Harry Kingman - Changing of the Guards, Athens

The soldiers of the Presidential Guard watch over the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Hellenic Parliament and the Presidential Mansion. They stand perfectly still for an hour until it is time to switch with another guard. The steps the ceremony requires are carried out in slow motion to protect their blood circulation after 60 minutes of immobility.

Mike Ward - New England

Taking a train Journey through the New England Country side on a vintage locomotive sounds great, but the train turned out to be a dirty old diesel. Also, the train ride was okay, but North York Moors Railway steam trains and the views are 100 per cent better.

Colin Dilcock - Maligne Lake

The photograph was taken on a sunny autumn day of the boat house on Maligne Lake, which is in Jasper National Park, Alberta Canada. The lake is famed for the colour of its water, the towering surrounding peaks, the three glaciers visible from the lake and Spirit Island, a frequently photographed islet.
