ANIMALS come in all shapes and sizes. They are often a challenge to photograph well; their movement is seldom predictable and even when you think they are posing, they are just as likely to examine the front of the lens. However, when it works, you get a great deal of pleasure.

This month’s spread of photographs supplied by members of Kirkbymoorside Camera Club should inspire you to get out with your camera.

Each photographer has provided a brief outline for their picture.

If you would like to know more about the club, just go to one of their meetings at 7.30pm on the first and third Thursday of each month at the British Legion Club, Kirkbymoorside, where you will find a group of friendly people, of all abilities and experience, with a common interest.

Full details of the club and its programme, can be found on the club's website kirkbymoorside-camera-club.co.uk or by requesting an information pack from

Barrie Tuck – Tiger

This image was shot on "safari" at Flamingo Land in wildest Kirby Misperton. It shows a Sumatran tiger enjoying the view of all those tasty visitors that he would like to have for lunch.

Tim Thornton – Seal pup

In mid-September, 11 of us we went on a family walk from Boggle Hole to Ravenscar along the beach, then up the cliff to the village and back along the cliff top. The highlight of the walk was at the base of the cliff where we saw two seal pups. This pup seemed happy enough so long as we were keeping a good distance. When we had struggled up the cliff we looked back and saw a dozen seals in the sea perhaps enjoying the last warming rays of the day.

Richard Harrison – Lab on the loose

While walking on Acklam Wold, a friendly golden Labrador came trotting over to say hello.

Julie Cowdy – Koala

I captured this image of a koala on Hamilton Island, off the coast of the Great Barrier Reef. They may look cute and cuddly but are very smelly! I was pleased with the backlighting on this photo and the texture of its fur.

Joyce Kingman – Just a Duck

There is something appealing about mallard ducks, wherever you see them. This drake caught my eye, standing in the sunshine by the clear turquoise water of Lake Lucerne.

Harry Kingman – Puffin at Bempton

We are very fortunate to have Bemptom Cliffs so close as it is the best place in England to experience seabirds. In mid-June the puffins, razor bills, guillemots and gannets are all nesting, some within a couple of metres of the path. Within a minute of taking this shot a sea fret came in and totally obscured the cliffs.

Gazette & Herald:

Janet Burdon – Donkey

A friendly donkey wanting to have a nibble at my leg, or my camera, or both.
