THE York offices of the Gazette & Herald and its sister paper, the York Press, are on the move. The demolition of the newspaper’s former printworks, paper reel store and rear offices in Walmgate is complete and Vinci Construction UK is building flats and apartments for 654 university students in its place.

At the same time, York-based William Anelay has built new newspaper offices in the former Poads building, a Victorian structure adjacent to The Press building, which once housed the newspaper’s canteen, cuttings library and training rooms.

During the relocation, we unearthed some fantastic photographs in our archives and here is just a small selection.

If you know anything about the people in the photographs, or any of the events please email us at gazette@gazetteherald.co.uk or phone 01904 567146.
