THE HISTORY of Cropton will go on display as part of an exhibition showcasing how vastly towns and villages in Ryedale have changed.

The Antiques Slideshow will feature a variety of old photographs and postcards, with many dating back to the early 1900's, as well as some humorous comic cards found in an old photo album.

Robert Aconley who has organised the exhibition said that he hopes the photos will prove interesting to those visiting the exhibition on Wednesday, April 30 at Cropton ViIlage Hall.

He said: "We found a photo album with a number of old photos and postcards. People have shown an interest in seeing them so I copied them and decided to do a slideshow for Cropton village hall funds."

The photographs include Rosedale, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley, Malton, Scarborough and York as well as areas further afield, showing just how much they have changed.

The early 1900's photograph of Kirkbymoorside shows a dramatic change as in front of the Methodist chapel now stands shops, a housing development, a supermarket and a garage.

Those attending the event may be able to help shed some light on the history of some of the postcards, which were sent mainly to someone living in the village.

A few names are known in the 1950's Cropton Carnival float photo but guests may well be able to identify more.

The exhibition is free and starts at 7.30pm. There will be a raffle and all of the money raised will go towards funds for the village hall.
