FUNDRAISERS across Ryedale helped make this year's Children in Need the best yet breaking all previous records.

The national total was more than £32m on Friday night, boosted by fun and games at schools and businesses in this area.

With a "superheroes" theme, many pupils went to school dressed as their favourite characters, while for others the dress code was pyjamas or onesies.

At Lady Lumley's School in Pickering, sixth formers brought in their teddy bears for the day while Norton College held a series of events including a cake auction, karaoke, photo booth and non-uniform day organised by the charity team.

Sixth formers at Malton school turned from model students to Superheroes for the day to help raise money for Children in Need.

The school also had a slave auction with students bought by younger pupils.

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need, said: “People of the UK should be feeling incredibly proud of what has been achieved this evening.

“Their remarkable generosity will help us to change a lot of young lives.”
