STAFF from Morrisons supermarket in Malton have taken place in a national baton race to raise funds for charity.

The store was challenged to transport the baton to their Scarborough store by walking, running or cycling.

During the race the Malton supermarket also organised in-store events including a cake stall, ice bucket challenge and collection buckets.

Fellow staff members used exercise bikes to support their colleagues who were carrying the baton.

The £650 raised will contribute towards Morrisons Raise A Smile partnership with Sue Ryder. The three-year partnership will fund new community health care services across the country for people with long-term and serious illnesses with the aim of giving more people the care they want at the end of their lives.

Pam Friend, from the Malton store, said: "Our colleagues across the country have been organising some fantastic fundraising events for Sue Ryder and we wanted to do our part.

"The baton rely itself went really well and our team managed to get the baton across to Scarborough by running and cycling in a couple of hours."
