CUSTOMERS shopping at a local Asda store have helped to donate money to three Ryedale charities.

Shoppers at the store on Norton Road, chose to give to Malton Community Primary School, Malton Brownies and Norton Community Primary School.

Malton Primary will receive a cheque for £200 and both Malton Brownies and Norton Primary School have been presented with their cheques for £50.

Community Life Champion at the store Mandy Holberry explained that every Asda store is working to support charities within the community through the Community Life Scheme. Once the charities have been chosen, shoppers are given a green token at the checkout to place in a box of the charity they wish to vote for. Charities are then sent a donation from the store depending on the number of tokens they receive.

Mandy said: "We are thrilled to support local charities and it is always great to present each one with a cheque.

"The store is now also open until 11pm on an evening and a lot of people don't know that."
