A NORTON pub hosted its annual fundraiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Yorkshire Cancer Research at the weekend.

The Hyde Park, in Mill Street has organised a series of events over the Bank Holiday for the past five years.

Landlady, Sue Rice, initiated the fundraiser, after her son Gavin was seriously injured in a motorbike accident.

He was flown to Hull Royal Infirmary by the air ambulance for life-saving surgery.

Sue said this year they had decided to raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research as well.

"A lot of customers, who have become friends are having treatment for cancer so we wanted to do something to help," she added.

"We want to thank everyone who has helped and donated their time for free."

The activities included a quiz, with a race afternoon and a children's party. There was also a 60s and 70s disco with a bouncy castle on Bank Holiday Monday.

Elsewhere a Hyde Park charity golf weekend took place at Wolds View Golf Course as well as a Hyde Park angling tournament at Follywood, Huby, organised by Mike Lightfoot.

Sue said she and her daughter Sharon Newsam, were now planning to take part in a charity assault course on October 12.

"We are also running a grand raffle which will be drawn on the same day," she added.

"A lot of great prizes have already been donated and we would like to thank all those who have contributed and would welcome further donations."
