STUDENTS from Malton School, Norton College and Lady Lumley’s School, Pickering, who went head-to-head earlier this month in a talent contest in aid of Acorn Community Care, handed over the proceeds of the event this week.

A total of 15 acts battled it out in Malton’s Milton Rooms to raise more than £1,500 for the Norton-based charity, which supports adults with learning difficulties.

Sponsored by the Gazette & Herald, the winners of this year’s competition were singers Zac Woolley and George Ullyot, from Malton School.

Organiser Di Keal said: "I am absolutely delighted with the total raised and also the impact the event had on raising Acorn's profile locally. I hope that the community is now much more aware of the brilliant work it does in the area. The appeal for funds to expand is on track, but there is a long way to go and anyone who would like to support Acorn should contact them at their Whinflower hall base in Norton.

"I think we will definitely be running Ryedale's Got Talent again – the students absolutely love it and it is a great opportunity for them to showcase some fantastic local talent."
