A good show of sucker bred bulls were in strong demand from the farmers gathered around the ring side. Store lambs again were good to sell with the average price around £2 up on the previous week.

Similar numbers of cattle on offer were an improved trade overall, although some poorer quality lean cattle met a steady demand. Top price of the day was 201.5 for a limousin x heifer from B Bowman, Roecliffe purchased by H Lee & Sons, Thirsk while steers sold to 192.5 for a belgian blue x from JT & G Ryder, Youlton purchased by J Penny & Sons, Rawdon. Young bulls were also a better trade particularly for the better quality animals resulting in a top price of 192.5 being realised for a limousin bull from JE, FM, & JK Wilson, Arkendale bought by Cleveland Meat Co, Stockton. Cows & OTM’s were also easier to sell with OTM’s making up to 145.5 and cows 129.5.

Larger numbers of lambs on offer were a little dearer again particularly for good quality well fleshed lambs with a top price of 140 ppkg for texel x from JT Swiers & Son, Cundall to J & B Fitton, Oldham and to £64 (three times) for texel x from TP Corner & Sons, Sessay, JK Garbutt, Scawton & C B Jacklin & Co, Yatts bought by Yorkshire Quality Lamb, Thirsk (2) and Kurpas Meats, Manchester. Ewes were a similar trade to last week making up to £49. Pigs met an improved trade for good quality sorts with a top price of 119p (twice) from P & S Barnes, Cropton sold to R Horner, Kilburn and J Penny & Sons, Rawdon. Thirsk: Tuesday, November 26 Forward 486 head of stock including 248 store lambs. Another very good entry of cattle on offer again with a full ring of buyers in attendance were an extremely good trade for all classes with a top price of £840 being achieved for a belgian blue x heifer.
