SUGGESTIONS are needed for the best things to do and sights to see on the Cleveland Way as part of a new booklet being produced ahead of the National Trail’s 50th anniversary next year.
Whether it is a favourite walk, challenging run, best spot for picnicking, painting or wildlife watching, the organisers of next year’s celebrations are looking for the public’s most popular recommendations.
The ideas will form part of a booklet that will be available from January suggesting 50 ways to enjoy the Cleveland Way, which was voted the nation’s favourite trail earlier this year.
As well as this, the organisers are also keen to hear from people who will also celebrate their 50th birthday on the trail’s milestone day of May 24 or who remember walking any section of the 109-mile route when it first opened.
Malcolm Hodgson, National Trails officer, said: “We’re really keen for people to get involved with celebrating the anniversary.
“As the Cleveland Way is such a well-loved trail, it made sense for the booklet to be a compilation of favourite spots put forward by visitors and locals.
“As part of the anniversary we’re also planning an event on the May 24 where it would be fantastic to involve anybody who remembers the trail when it launched or who shares the special milestone birthday.”
