THE Malton Show committee has appointed two new men at the top for 2018.

Vic Bruce, of Ryedale livestock haulier VA and AL Bruce, is the new vice-chairman and Charlie Breese, managing director of high-tech communications and engineering business Sylatech, returns for a second stint as chairman.

Vic and his business are based in Thorpe Bassett just a stone’s throw from the showground and he has been involved in farming in some way or another throughout his whole life.

Having worked on farms in the past, haulier Vic is now a smallholder too, and together with wife Aimee breeds Angus and Limousin cross cattle.

Vic has also been a regular past volunteer at the showground helping ensure the day runs smoothly so brings plenty of hands-on skills to the show management.

“I’ve enjoyed Malton Show all my life, its a cracking day out for everyone,” he said. “I remember missing school to attend many years ago and have rarely missed a show day since.

“Malton Show has gone on to gather strength and change as tastes over the years mean we’ve introduced different elements to the show such as classic cars and kids entertainment, so there’s far more for the family as a whole to enjoy, as well as keeping the agricultural backbone of the show in tact.

“There’s nothing like a good show day; seeing people enjoying themselves, a good crowd and everything coming together.”

Charlie has been serving on the organising committee for the show for more than 20 years and has also been a past chairman.

He was born and bred in Ryedale and has worked for a number of key local businesses.

Charlie trained and qualified as a chartered surveyor at Boulton & Cooper, followed by a 12-year stint at Westlers (Malton Foods), before joining Sylatech in Kirkbymoorside and brings rich experience gained from both the farming and business sides.

He said: “I was pleased to be asked again to chair the committee for 2018 and we’re really excited about this year’s show.

“We’ve got all the usual popular attractions but plenty of new ones too for all ages to enjoy to make sure we stay one of North Yorkshire’s best-loved summer attractions.”

The show takes place at Scampston Park, near Malton, on Sunday, July 1. Gates open at 9am and the show continues until the early evening. Entry costs £10 per adult, children under 12 go free, with 12 to 16 year olds and OAP concessions at £5.
