MAKING ice-cream, seeing chicks hatch and meeting Mr Bloom from CBeebies are just some of the hundreds of fun things to do at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s newest event, Springtime Live.

Held at the Great Yorkshire Showground on Sunday, April 3, the event will see 80 different workshops, as well as demonstrations, stands with everything from jewellery to local food, and plenty of animals to see and touch.

Elizabeth Hudson, charities activities manager, said: “Learning through fun activities is very much the theme of Springtime Live and it’s proved a winning formula.

"The animals are always very popular and it’s a chance for us to make farming really come alive for our visitors. Each year the list of things to see and do gets longer and more diverse which explains its appeal.”

The two exhibition halls are the focus for the event where old favourites can be found as well as new features. New for this year is the chance to experience what it’s like to be a jockey – albeit on a mechanical horse rather than a Grand National contender. Discover the outdoor world of a gamekeeper, or learn about riverbank life through characters from the timeless Wind in the Willows, and lots more.

The latest farm technology, including a huge tractor on tracks, and shiny equipment can also be seen, whilst a flavour of yesteryear will be given through the fascinating selection of vintage farm machinery.
