RYEDALE Folk Museum is gearing up for its ever-popular gathering of vintage tractors and engines on Sunday.

Now in its 16th year, the event has gained a reputation for being a great day out for all the family.

Museum manager and event organiser Kevin Simms said: “Visitors are delighted to see all the tractors around the museum’s grounds. It’s such a splendid site and each year there is more to see.”

Some of the star attractions include Fordsons, Fergusons, Allis-Chalmers, Nuffields, David Browns, Belarus and McCormick International.

Mr Simms said: “The tractor and engine owners are really pleased to talk to visitors about their exhibits. The care taken by the owners in the restoration or upkeep of their tractors and engines is amazing. For most it’s a hobby with real passion attached.”

There will be a competition on the day with classes for Best Stationary Engine, Best Fordson, Best Tractor (overall) and Most Original, judged by Gareth Barlow, farmer, broadcaster and presenter of BBC Radio York’s Yorkshire Farming. Winners will be announced and trophies presented at 1.30pm.

The day includes a fun tractor run around the village of Hutton-le-Hole at 2pm, which presents a great opportunity to see the vintage tractors parade around the picturesque village.

Tractor and Engine Day takes place at Ryedale Folk Museum on Sunday, from 10am to 4pm. Normal admission charges apply.
