A NEW president for Malton Show has been chosen for the year.

Steven Clark, who recently retired after more than 12 years as chief executive of Brandsby Agricultural Trading Association (BATA), will take on the role after being appointed by the Malton Agricultural Society.

After completing a degree in agriculture at Reading University, Steven worked for the Overseas Development Administration spending time in East Africa while studying for his masters degree in tropical agriculture, which was followed by five years in Saudi Arabia managing livestock.

On returning to the UK he joined BATA, the main sponsors of this year’s show on Sunday, July 5.

He said: “I am honoured to be invited to be the show’s president for 2015 as both Malton Show and BATA have long traditions firmly rooted in the farming and rural community.

“Many people put in a great deal of time and effort to put on the show which provides a great day out for everyone and I really look forward to being there on July 5.”

Visitors to this year’s show, at Scampston Park, will be treated to a huge range of agricultural attractions, horticultural displays and farm exhibits.

There will be the much-loved fur and feather tent, showjumping, a dog show and a craft fair, which will run alongside the children’s area with free face painting.

Alan Tate-Smith, the newly-elected chairman of the Malton Agricultural Society, said that he was delighted to welcome Steven to the team.

He said: “BATA has had a long and successful working partnership with us at Malton Show and Steven himself has been immensely supportive over the years.

“He will have his hands full on show day, judging various sections and competitions, as well as awarding prizes and engaging with some of the thousands of visitors to the show ground.”

The show will open at 9am and entry costs £10 for adult and £5 for concessions and 12-16-year-olds. For more details, visit maltonshow.com
