A NEW chairman of Malton Show has been appointed.
Alan Tate-Smith, takes over from the retiring chairman Michael Cleary, who has held the post for the last two years.
The 37-year-old has been a regular show visitor all his life and joined the Malton Show committee last year.
Born and bred in Malton, Alan is a partner at the local NFU office and prior to that, was a land agent and auctioneer at Cundalls for eight years.
Alan said: “I’m delighted to accept the job as chairman as I’m passionate about this wonderful local event that brings together farmers, children, local businesses and residents, plus visitors from much further afield.
“The show has been running for 129 years, and with that amount of history and tradition, I am dedicated to ensuring its long-term success.”
The main sponsor for this year’s show, on Sunday, July 5, is BATA Farmers Cooperative.
Attractions will include horticultural displays and farm exhibits, displays of livestock, showjumping, vintage tractors, farmers’ market, trade stands, a dog show and a craft fair.
Alan said: “Last year I was responsible for redesigning the showground’s new layout, which changed the flow and the feel of the day, and feedback was excellent.
“Building on improvements like this, my objective is to get the show back to its proper, rural, agricultural roots that appeals to not just farmers but families of all ages.
“I want to make sure we remain one of North Yorkshire’s best-loved summer attractions.”
