KIRKBYMOORSIDE Horticultural Society’s popular annual show may have to find a new venue.

Since it began some 34 years ago it has been held inSeptember at the market town’s Memorial Hall, but The society’s annual meeting was told that it may be in jeopardy after complaints were made following last year’s event.

Jill Hugill, who has been the secretary throughout its 34-year existence, when it began as part of the former Kirkbymoorside Carnivalsaid: “We have been told that there were problems over the borrowing of tables from the Dug Out, and them not being put back in the correct place.” and also chairs which we did not use.”

And, added Mrs Hugill, two buckets which had been put in place to catch rain water at a leak, had also not be replaced, and a drain had been blocke Now, the society is to seek a meeting with thehall officials, and if there is not a positive outcome the show, which has seen its status enhanced over the years, will look for a new venue for September 27. from being a relatively small horticultural show for the town’s gardeners, to one which has prizes awarded by the National Vegetable Society and the National Dahlia Society and attracting some 600 entries from a an area well beyond Kirkbymoorside, said Mrs Hugill.

But some how, the show will go on, she assured. The date for this year’s event is September 27.
