MEURIG Raymond has been elected as the new president of the National Farmers’ Union.

Mr Raymond, a mixed farmer from Pembrokeshire, succeeds Peter Kendall who stood down from the role after eight years in office.

Minette Batters, a beef farmer from Wiltshire, was elected deputy president and Guy Smith, an arable farmer from Essex, was elected vice-president.

Mr Raymond, who had been the NFU’s deputy president for the last eight years, said: “I’m extremely proud to be leading an organisation like the NFU and I’m grateful that the membership and NFU Council have supported me.”
