Scrap crackdown is welcomed

THE Country Land and Business Association (CLA) has welcomed the Government’s decision to clamp down on scrap metal theft.

The Easingwold-based association, which has been campaigning for a package of measures to combat metal theft, said it was “very pleased” the Government has acted on its advice.

Regional director Dorothy Fairburn said it was “excellent news” that Home Secretary Theresa May had announced plans to combat metal theft, saying the amendment would create a new criminal offence prohibiting cash payments for the purchase of scrap metal.
