New class in annual Young Farmers’ ploughing match


HELMSLEY Young Farmers’ Club’s annual ploughing match takes place on Sunday, February 21, by permission of Mr and Mrs H Raines, Lund Court Farms, Skiplam.

The event is being held at Kirkdale Corner at the Wombleton/Harome turn off on A170, two miles west of Kirkbymoorside. Ploughing classes include conventional, classic, reversible, vintage trailed, vintage mounted, match class plus a new class – oat seed furrow (high cut).

A domino drive will be on March 2 at a venue to be confirmed and a spring bingo session will be held at Nawton Memorial Hall on March 11.

HYFC had to postpone their annual bath push because of the weather. The event will go ahead either in February or March.

Members of HYF went carol singing to past members, the advisory committee and current members’ parents and raised £265 which will be donated to Meningitis UK. Many thanks to those who invited the singers out of the cold into their homes.

Rillington YFC is having a new members’ evening on February 16 in the church rooms, Rillington, between 7pm-9pm.

The open evening is for anyone aged between 10 and 26 and will give an insight into what the YFC is about and how you can become part of one of the biggest youth movements in the countryside.

Rillington YFC had a social evening in the Fleece at Rillington on Tuesday, December 29 to practise pool and darts skills. On Tuesday, January 5, a meeting was held to plan the programme for the coming months and the following Tuesday arrangements were made to organised the forthcoming new members’ evening.
