New equestrian venue Low Farm at Barthorpe near Malton held its first competition last Sunday with an unaffiliated show jumping day.

The setting is really idyllic with ample parking and a spacious warm up arena and main ring.

A separate clear round ran all day. The ground could have been drier but this competition still managed to go ahead when other events were cancelled. The main ring had been extremely well prepared, was well mown and had a very flat and even surface. There was a cash prize of £25 to the winner of the novice and intermediate sections and £50 to the winner of the open class.

There was only one clear round in each class which made the following combinations the outright winners:

Novice: Michaela Richards on Rosie.

Intermediate: Jo Eccles on Jaffa.

Open: Claire Spencer on Ashfield Primrose.

The next events to be held at Low Farm are Malton District Riding Club's unaffiliated show jumping competition on Sunday, May 18 and Low Farm's own show jumping on Sunday, June 29.
