IT was a rags-to-riches story for the showjumping quartet that lifted the title at the Harrogate Ladies College Equestrian Team Challenge which took place at the Great Yorkshire Showground recently.

There was intense competition from the 20 teams that took part in the junior section of the three-round showjumping contest.

The quartet, named Rags to Riches, combined the talents of Lois Teal, from Norton, riding Castlequarter Totti, Burythorpe-based Kiera Colgan on Trigger Happy, Charlotte Hoggard, from Low Marishes, riding Ozzi and Sheriff Hutton-based Bethany Shipley on Sweet Clover.

Each team consisted of three or four riders and there were two showjumping rings in action on the day. When all of the jumping rounds had been performed, the top six teams went through to an action-packed jump-off. “It is always really well organised, timed to perfection and a great experience for the kids to compete at the Great Yorkshire Showground,” said Kiera’s mum, Lorraine Colgan.
