RIDERS representing North Ryedale Riding Club look strong contenders for the forthcoming British Riding Clubs Area Show Jumping after dominating the team competition hosted by Northallerton Equestrian Centre last week.
The club’s junior members set the winning standard in the 65cm height class and claimed an outright victory as the only team to remain on zero faults after completing two rounds of jumping. The quartet comprising Isabella Armitage and Pi, Amelia de Boulay riding Molly, Ella Turnbull on Diesel and Sophie Milestone riding Sarraigo Spirit, went on to give another good representation in the 75cm to finish in third place after lowering just one pole.
After a nail-biting jump off round in a hotly-contested class, the 75cm title also went the way of North Ryedale Riding Club. The winning team showing the rest of the field a clean pair of heels were Rachel Inman and Hobbs, Kiera Colgan riding Max, Lucy Gilsenan on Comanche Blue and Andrea Howell riding Kerry.
There was some edge of the seat action in the 85cm height class when three teams, all on zero faults, went against the clock to decide the final placings.
Kiera Colgan and Lucy Gilsenan joined forces with Sabine Crowe riding Emma and Rachel Lunney on Tangerine Dream to secure second place in the contest, while third went the way of Pat Anderson riding Starlight, Charlotte Lawson on Obsidian, Paula O Donnell riding Sprocket and Jen Foster on Merlin.
There were more ribbons gathered in the 95cm when Rachel Lunney, Sabine Crowe, Charlotte Lawson and Pat Anderson took third place and Jen Foster, Sabine Crowe on her second ride Grace, Kathy Boothman riding Daisy and Paula O Donnell on Guinness finished fifth.
Ann Sibsey, team trainer and instructor for North Ryedale Riding Club said: “Fiona Foster and I organised the outing as a warm-up for the British Riding Clubs Area Show Jumping competition but we had not anticipated gaining such fantastic results. We had a great day and everyone rode really well – I am very proud of them all.”
The British Riding Clubs Area 4 Show Jumping competition takes place at Bishop Burton College on Sunday, February 12.
