Malton riders scoop national trial victory

MALTON District Riding Club had good reason to celebrate at the weekend, following a win at the British Riding Club’s Area 4 Horse Trials on Sunday.

Bishop Burton College hosted the hotly contested event which attracted maximum entries and required riders to perform a dressage test prior to a round of show jumping before finishing with a cross-country round. Luckily the weather was kind, remaining dry, leaving good going on the challenging cross-country section, which asked a few technical questions of the riders.

Malton’s junior novice team comprising of Evie Bailey and Bentley, Sophie Lear riding Manor Gunn, Shelley Lake with Lisglassick Storyteller and Kristina Withers on Amber Gold gave great performances and were elated when they were announced as the winners.

Malton’s second junior novice team also rode well and gave very creditable performances to take sixth place. They were: Amy Small and Caroworth Pencam, Callum Small riding Briardale Rainbow Quest, Bianca Shaw with Ryanair, and Alice Laughton on Little Man.

Katie Brickman gave an almost flawless performance in the senior intermediate section, riding Moonlight Matilda. Katie meant business, earning a well-deserved individual second place. Kate Spencer achieved individual second place in the junior intermediate section of the competition.

North Ryedale Riding Club juniors also gave a good account of themselves, taking fourth place in the novice section. They were, James Richardson and Bits of Blue, William Easterby riding Mundon Cyclone, Amy Milburn with Loughnatousa Orange, and Jen Foster on Ballyholan Express.
