THE equestrian events at this year’s Acklam show saw higher entries than ever.
Gemma Thwaites, chair of the show committee, said: “Both gate and equestrian entries were up; in fact to record levels for the equestrian - despite having to cancel the puissance.”
The winners in the riding events were as follows:
- The Stephenson Cup: Callum West
- Veteran: Anouk Van Gulck
- Pleasure Horse/Pony: Grace Smith
- Racehorse to Riding Horse: Amy Sinclair
- Working Hunter Pony: Natalie Beard
- Working Hunter Horse: Holly Thompson
- Bonny Pony: Tess Jacobs
- 45cm jumping: Niall Hill
- 55cm jumping: Niall Hill
- 60cm jumping: Chloe Smith
- 75cm jumping: Ella Cast
- 85cm jumping: Charlotte Austen Thompson
- Horse & Hound: Chloe Smith
Away from the equestrian events, there was music by In-Transit, Malarkey and the Woolgatherers, and the charities supported by the show were the Leavening Play Area and Acklam Defibrillator Fund.
Kara Wright of the show added: “There was plenty going on; as well as the equestrian events there was a fantastic trials bike display, live bands, sheaf-throwing, sheep-shearing, lovely food and children’s athletics to name a few.
“The success of the show demonstrates the clear commitment of the committee, sponsors, volunteers and attendees without whom the show would not have been the fantastic event that it was. It’s a real community event.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone back on the first Saturday in June 2019.”
