A STABLES near Whitby has held the final of the Horslyx-sponsored dressage series.

Beckside Livery Stables held the competition on Thursday, June 29, the culmination of a dressage series which has been ongoing for several months.

The contest took place despite soggy ground.

Cara Shardlow, who runs the stables, said: “So after every single one of the competitions being dry I suppose we were due a wet one. It really did rain the night before but we still managed to run the competition.

“We were very lucky to have some fantastic prizes given by Horslyx who produce Equine feed balancers.

“The Intro senior was won by the super-consistent Fiona Hawes riding Noah.

“She has been leading the points table for some weeks now and managed to take a convincing win seven points ahead of her rivals.”

Julia Smith was second on the day riding Subo.

Ms Shardlow went on: “The intro junior went to Abigail Motson in her first year competing at dressage.

“She has done a fantastic job of holding her lead to take the top spot.”

Hattie Jenkins was runner up on the day.

“The Prelim class was one of the closest fought competitions,” Ms Shardlow added, “but it was between Vicci Smith’s two rides Heather Lythes’ Ruby and Laura Wooding’s Marslane Bell.

“Ruby was the eventual winner by two points.

“The junior Prelim was won by another combination new to dressage - Lilly Collinson riding her new pony Pele.

“She was even giving the adults a run for their money with some of her scores this series.

“The PYO class got bigger as the series went on and was quite a close battle between Vicci Smith riding Ruby and Sarah Smith riding the Wizard.

“Vicci eventually took her second title of the night.”

Ms Shardlow added: “A huge thank you to our sponsors, riders, judges, writers and catering. It would not have run without you all. Look out for the autumn series starting in September.”
