THERE were several local success stories at the BRC Area 4 Winter Showjumping Qualifiers at Bishop Burton at the weekend.

A top form North Ryedale won the Senior Intermediate Section; the only team to finish on a double clear.

The North Ryedale junior novice team of Molly Brown on Dark Mischief, Erin Smith on Callista, Amy Hayhurst on Nangenta Rouge and Ruby Thompson on Castle Quarter Tottie also clinched second to secure a place at the championships. Lizzie Ball on KEC Amelie went on to jump in the Intermediate class to come Individual fourth.

In the senior individuals, Judy Armstrong on Endeavour III set the pace from early on, though was eventually pushed into second. It was still an impressive result for the pair as it was a year to the day since the horse underwent life-saving cancer treatment at Rainbow Equine Hospital.

North Ryedale will travel to Buckinghamshire for the Equi-Theme Intermediate Championship in April.

Scarborough Riding Club meanwhile repeated their success of last year by winning the top spot in the KBIS Novice Winter Championships.

With four double clear rounds, the Beach team of Amanda Roberts on Magic, Sadie Osborne on Fern, Amy Osborne on Maisie and Sarah Beal on Earl have qualified for the championship in Bedfordshire in April, along with second place Yellow team from Malton.

Scarborough’s chief d’équipe Jane Garwood said: “We were delighted to qualify again for the Novice Championships but all the competitors did their teams proud. We must say a special thanks to all our volunteers, especially our new members who came forward to steward from our club and show support for the participating teams.”

Both clubs welcome new members.
