THREE local pony club riders have come away with a haul of rosettes, prizes, sashes and trophies from this year's Equine Sports UK Grassroots Championships.

Lauren McNichol, Sophia Edgar and Stephanie Else, all from the Derwent Hunt Pony Club, had qualified for the championships, sponsored by Your Horse, which were held in Grantham under sunny skies.

Lauren McNichol, riding Robin, was first in the pony showjumping one-metre championships on the Saturday and again in the one-metre Grand Prix jumping class the following day. She was also third in the 90cm championship Saturday class and then fourth in the 90cm Grand Prix class.

Sophia Edgar, riding Jigsaw, was 11th in the Saturday 60cm championship class and then sixth in the Sunday Grand Prix 60cm class. This was followed by a fourth place in the Prelim 18 dressage class and she then rounded off with a sixth in the veteran pony championships.

Steph Else riding Dylan – a new combination who have quickly bonded – was fifth in the Mountain & Moorland ridden championship, receiving her rosette during a special evening awards ceremony in the main indoor arena. They then competed in both the 80 and 90cm horse showjumping section, qualifying for the 90cm Grand Prix and although not in the ribbons this time, showing great potential for 2017.
