A RYEDALE horse rider has come away victorious in the weekend's Waitings Warwick Hall Series Cup 2016, held near Carlisle.

Emma Corner, from Norton, riding her nine-year-old gelding Rio, competition name Iamwotiam, scored first place and two second places over three weekends of eventing throughout May, June and July. This put her on 22 points, just pipping Natalie Ireland from Kendal with Cherokee Brave with a first, fourth and a third place, to win the cup.

Ms Corner said that they had been lucky with the weather, as Rio prefers firm ground, adding: "I am delighted. I've had him since he was five and he's quite a character. It's been a long road to get to where we are but fingers crossed for the future."

More than 1,000 horses went to Warwick Hall this year to compete at one of the three events. The presentation will take place at The Mane Event Awards Ball on Saturday, October 29, at the Halston, Carlisle.
