FOUR young horse riders have proved they are top of the class when it comes to equine knowledge.

Sophie Lunn, Amy Newman, Fiona Hardman and Charlotte Beal, all members of the Friars Hill Pony Club, have formed a quiz team this year with huge success.

The team qualified for the Area Three round of the quiz competition (which encompasses all of Yorkshire), after winning the first round of the qualifiers at Guisborough Rugby Club, and then went on to win the Area Three Final held at Clifford on Friday night.

Now the team is heading off to Addington Manor, in Buckinghamshire, in the Easter Holidays to the Pony Club NFU Mutual National Quiz Finals.

There are eight rounds in the quiz, which come under a range of specialist equestrian knowledge and lore, and which this year include the Pony Club, Tack and Turnout, well-known venues, the numbers game and missing words, the Practical Round, a "know your horses" round and a picture round.

The final, at Addington Equestrian Centre, will be held on Saturday.
