A 17-YEAR-OLD former racehorse is showing her range, by winning a number of showjumping prizes.

Emerald Glen is a 15.2 bay mare, and has raced three times on the flat. She came to owner Denise Mcloughlin purely by chance.

Ms Mcloughlin said: "I kept her as a companion horse for more than two years, and when my showjumper was diagnosed with a kissing spine, my dad suggested I tried jumping Glenda (Emerald Glen). She has proved herself to be more than capable."

Emerald Glen has since won the Retraining Of Racehorses North East Regional League. She has also been victorious in the North East Regional award for the most points in affiliated showjumping competitions and has qualified for the National ROR Championships in showjumping at Aintree, which will be held at the end of August this year.

Ms Mcloughlin added: "She's a quirky sharp horse but is the most genuine horse I've ever showjumped and has a home for life with us. I'm really proud to be jumping an ex-racehorse."

She headed the British Showjumping ROR Club League last year, competed in the British Showjumping National Finals at Stoneleigh and came third in the National ROR Showjumping Championship.
