A NORTON rider has claimed a victory at a point-to-point at York on Sunday.

Jack Teal won the Mixed Open, a field of 10 entries, on Fureys Bar.

Askham Bryan College outside York, one of Yorkshire's newest tracks, was the host of the West of Yore point-to-point. Large crowds gathered in the winter sunshine.

It was the first of two meetings at this track. The six-race card got underway at 12.30pm with the Confined Hunts race, which was won by Things Change.

This was followed by the YAPP Club Members, a conditions race where novice riders are exempt from carrying a 5lb penalty.

The Mixed Open followed, won by Fureys Bar, and then came the Intermediate, won by favourite Greensalt, and Restricted races. The final two Open races saw victories for Marthans Benefit and Creating Havoc.
