HORSE riders at Friars Hill Stables are now able to take Progressive Riding Tests, with a number already completing the course.

The Progressive Riding Test, run by the British Horse Society, is a six-part assessment which covers two modules in Equitation and Stable Management.

Friars Hill decided to run the tests following on from the recent success of their Essential Horse Knowledge course. They have been holding two sessions per week in order to attract as wide an audience as possible.

The riders were trained at Friars Hill by Alison Brown and, after plenty of riding tuition and stable management sessions, they had an assessment day with a visiting instructor, who came along to examine the candidates.

Of the 14 riders who participated in the tests, 11 of them passed all six tests, allowing them direct entry into the British Horse Society's stage two exam should they wish to do so.

A staff member said: "One of the successful candidates is taking advantage of this and is due to take her stage two exam later this spring."
