EMMA CORNER, who works full-time as a secretary at Rainbow Equine Hospital in Malton, has been riding since the age of three and has always dreamed of becoming an event rider, and seems to be well on her way to achieving her dreams.

Emma admits it’s a hard slog fitting everything in around a full-time job but gets up about 5am most days to ensure that the horses are exercised before work.

The first of Emma’s string is Iamwotiam, who is an eight- year-old bay gelding, which she has owned for three years. He was a blank canvas with Emma steadily bringing him on through the levels, and he now has 79 foundation points and six BE points.

This year has been his most successful season yet and has achieved his first win, BE100, at Dalston Green last month finishing on his dressage score of 17.3. This was topped with a fourth place at Breckenbrough where he finished fourth in his novice section. As he is not the most straightforward horse, Emma thinks he will stay at novice level this year to keep his confidence up and aim him for one star next year.

Emma’s second horse, Edmonton ELS is a six-year- old grey gelding, who she purchased from Sam Jimmison a year ago and again, a blank canvas. He now has 37 foundation points and four BE points, his best achievements so far are finishing second at Bishop Burton in the BE100 and Kelsall Hill where he finished third in the Novice at Eland Lodge earlier this month, Emma’s aim with him now is the six-year-old championships at Osberton in October. This year has been Emma’s most successful to date having achieved 12 top 10 places so far with a few months of the season to go.

Emma is sponsored by Robinsons Equestrian and Rainbow Equine Hospital both of Malton, along with help and support from her parents and instructors, Natalie Widdowson and Michelle Porteus.

Emma said: “Without their invaluable support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I feel very fortunate to have two very talented young horses and hope they can keep progressing up the grades.”
