SAMANTHA BROWN, daughter of Steve Brown and Julie Camacho, who trains at Star Cottage racing stables in Norton, is proving to be an all-rounder in equestrian.

Sam made her debut on the British eventing circuit at Breckenbrough, near Thirsk, last Sunday riding her coloured pony, Tommy, pictured.

Sam had an unlucky draw of being the first one on for her dressage test but gaining a very creditable 31.5. The pair went on to go clear in the showjumping and again clear on the cross-country phase notching up just two time penalties, giving them third place on their debut with a score of 33.5.

Sam has brought Tommy’s education on slowly, doing all manner of pony club and riding club disciplines, mainly excelling in the showjumping ring. The pair were part of the qualifying team at the riding clubs show jumping qualifier at Bishop Burton, then going on to a team place at the Championships at Hartpury College for the finals. The pair also notched up a place for the pony club championships to be held at Chalmondley Castle in August.

Samantha has only this year started to concentrate more on his dressage, which has in turn improved his jumping ability. Having finished individual sixth at the riding clubs area 4 one-day event, where Samantha was pleasantly surprised at his dressage score, and on that basis decided to have a go at BE.
