MALTON Riding Club’s dressage and showjumping competitions are being well attended at their new venue in Norton, with its easy accessibility and peaceful surroundings giving both horses and riders a sense of calmness in what can be a stressful time for both.
The club held its first of the Friday evening showjumping last week, with some new faces going along to try the venue out. The novice pony section saw Rebecca Crawshaw having her first competition outing for a few years, going home with a smile on her face, having finishing with a very well deserved second place with just one pole down in the jump off.
Claire Szuman put in an appearance with her new horse, Casey, to ride a beautiful double clear round to win the novice horse section. Alicia Farey and her Connemara, Gorbally Boy, were putting in some practice in readiness for the area horse trials two days later, went storming round the intermediate course to give them a comfortable win. The club’s dressage competition saw Claire Szuman in form again on the horse’s dressage debut to comfortably win the intro and a very close second in the prelim section, which was won by Katie Robertshaw and Queens Law who have gone straight back to the top after having 18 months off due to injury.
