CHILDREN at a Ryedale playgroup were given a lesson in the great outdoors as they learned to make woodland picture frames and bake bread.

Staff, children and parents at Potter Hill Playgroup, in Pickering, took part in a Forest School session in the school’s large garden.

They made bread in the playgroup’s new tepee and toasted marshmallows over the fire-pit.

Manager Helen Welford said: “We were very lucky with the weather and all the children enjoyed the opportunity to get involved in some alternative activities which integrate outdoor learning into the day.”

The woodland picture frame art also proved to be a popular activity throughout the day with children making frames using autumn leaves, conkers and heather.

The staff are all Getting A Forest School Started accredited and have been putting what they have learned in to practice regularly at the playgroup’s sessions.
