THE arena event at Port Royal had a fantastic turn-out of competitors for the nine different height classes on offer.

The event comprises of a dressage test along with a round of show jumps, followed immediately by a round of portable cross-country fences within an enclosed arena, with the dressage score added to the show jumping and cross country penalties and time.

Mother and daughter, Penny and Pippa Biglin, from Pickering, notched up a placing each. Penny, riding Greylands Hidden Extra, finished fourth on just his dressage score in the 80cms and Pippa was fifth having just four penalties to add to her dressage score in the 85cms classes.

Event rider Christopher Whittle was out in force giving some of his youngsters experience in the 85cms taking home a fourth and sixth place on VS Champion Chips and Mr Bingley respectively.

Junior rider Erin Chan, from Swinton, was once again on top form with the multi-talented Iceford Toffee, taking home the best dressage score of the day of 49, along with just four penalties in the showjumping to add to her score leaving them to finish on a total of 53 leaving them a clear 10 points ahead of their nearest rival.
