THE Middleton pony club held a junior show cross at Deb Clark’s farm near Sheriff Hutton recently with a good turnout from the young members, all of which were 14 years and under.

The Clarks have built a small but varied course of cross-country jumps specifically aimed at the younger more novice members where they can gain confidence and experience.

There was a special class for aged six and under, judged by local point to point rider, Jacqueline Coward, where they all did a small but simple riding test to show their skills at walk and trot within a dressage arena.

Jacqueline found it too difficult to split them into placings and were all awarded with special rosettes for their efforts.

Christabel Storey, from Settrington, near Malton, riding her Connemara pony, Toby, completed a fluent round over the course, to just narrowly beat Samantha Brown riding Tommy into first place.

Middleton pony club district commissioner Trish Russell said: “The pony club would like to thank the Clarks for the use of their land for the rallies and competitions, which enables these youngsters to go out and gain valuable experience in a secure environment”.

The results were: 10 years & under novice – 1 Larnie McFarlane, 2 Izzy Camacho.

10 years 7 under open – 1 Lilly Baum, 2 Izzy Gregory, 3 Olympia Storey, 4 Martha Cussins.

14 years & under – 1 Christabel Storey, 2 Samantha Brown, 3 Alex Fielding, 4 Magnus Fielding.
