BRITISH riding clubs held the annual NAF championships at Lincoln Showground last Saturday.

The Yorkshire Area Four region held a qualifying competition for the championships at Epworth Equestrian Centre in July when several local clubs qualified including Scarborough, Harewood, Malton, East Yorkshire, Friars Hill, Ebor Vale and North Ryedale as teams and individuals.

The senior day took place with more than 2,000 competitors from all over the UK taking part in dressage and showjumping classes. Scarborough Riding Club saw Rowan Haywood crowned arena winner of the prelim novice dressage and attain fourth place in the style jumping.

The Scarborough dressage novice prelim team, consisting of Rachel Newton, Avril Mansfield, Amanda Roberts and Rowan took second, and the showjumping team with Carly Webb, Helen Holdsworth, Sadie Osborne and Amy Osborne were in sixth place.

Also on senior day Malton Riding Club, with three individuals saw Chloe Fairley, riding The Happy Prince, take sixth place in the style; Nicky Lyons and Tiger Bay Basil a ninth place in the riding test, and both Nicky and Chloe a seventh place in the pairs dressage. The junior day with almost 1,500 competitors saw Ebor Vale Club’s Jack Wainwright on Dark Bacardi finish individual third in the novice dressage and his brother, Ben, on Platinum Dreamcatcher, finish individual fourth in the style jumping.

Malton Riding Club junior team finished the weekend on a high to be crowned national champions in the riding test where Jess Johnson and Mr Boyze finished with an individual fourth and Amy Small, on Wellbrow Dewdrop, individual second; Erin Chan, on Iceford Toffee, individual fourth and Ellie Fairclough, on Abbey Park, individual second giving them a combined top score of eight, making them the highest placed team nationally.

Malton also took fifth place in the open dressage with Ellie Fairclough, Jess Johnson, Amy Small and Erin Chan with Jess and Erin taking individual eighth places in their arenas.
