THE turnout at Snainton Riding Centre’s championship dressage show was well-attended as usual, with a high standard of competition between the qualified contenders.

The junior prelim champion trophy, sponsored by McClarrons Insurance and presented by Sarah McClarron, went to Sasha Owens.

She was riding Alfinski, winning with three per cent in-hand from her nearest rival.

The senior Champagne Punch trophy, sponsored by Pam Macafie, went to Sarah Beeforth, riding Boris.

The World Boy cup, sponsored by Alec Lyall, for the novice section, went to Jane Williams.

She was riding Morgenstar, with a two per cent lead from the second-placed John Gill, riding Thorn.

Morgenstar, seven, who is owned and bred by Anne Rafferty and brought on by Jane Williams is proof that “where there is a will, there is a way”.

As a yearling, Morgenstar was diagnosed with a neurological disease, upon which Anne was advised to have her put to sleep.

Having sought out a second opinion and help from homeopathic vet, Sue Armstrong, she has helped them along the way with various treatments that have worked wonders for Morgenstar.

Anne said: “Too many times people have said to me why am I wasting my money on her.

“I bred her and I will not give up on her.

“I hope this inspires other people not to give up on their horses.

“We have always been so happy to have a horse like Morgenstar, but this has exceeded all of our expectations, hopefully the best is still to come.”
